Summer marks the start of some of our favourite things in Melbourne: the excitement of the festive season, long lazy days watching the cricket at the MCG, the buzz surrounding the Australian Open… and a fresh, new menu at Sezar. Designed to showcase modern Middle Eastern cooking techniques and take full advantage of the best of seasonal flavours and colours, our new menu is available right now.

Naturally, you can still expect to find classic crowd pleasers such as our spanner crab manti and bastourma and egg with garlic jam and toasted brioche (can you imagine the outcry if we ever took it off the menu?). However, we’re releasing some new and exciting dishes straight from the pass, guaranteed to make your mouth water – and have you coming back for more. And more.
If ordering one dip (i.e. our brown butter hommus) ain’t enough, we suggest giving our taramasalata a go. Made fresh in our house, we give it a modern Middle Eastern twist by adding preserved lemon for a bit of a kick and a sprinkle of fragrant herbs for freshness. It’s best enjoyed piled up on a piece of crisp lavash and enjoyed with a glass of sparkling wine. Cheers!
It seems like buratta is appearing on menus everywhere in Melbourne. However, we’re willing to bet that you haven’t experienced it like this before: served with slow roasted harissa tomato and yoghurt flat bread. It’s a light, mouth-watering dish that has graced tables at Sezar since we launched our new menu. Our diners just can’t get enough!
Featuring in our michag (medium-sized dishes) menu, our beef lule kebab is our tribute to the great Aussie barbeque – except 10 times better due to the absence of cheap sausages. Served with zucchini, tzatziki and dill, it’s the perfect meat dish for those that just want to keep things light.
The vegie dish to end all vegie dishes, our roasted eggplant is something else. After a stint in the oven to get it all smoky and charred, we serve it with falafel, pickled onion, labne and herbs. Enjoy it on its own or along some of our meaty mains.
For those who like it sweet and sticky, our braised short ribs is your answer. We pair this dish with our delectable roasted grape and pistachio salsa as well as our date jam – and yes, both taste just as good as they sound. This dish is best enjoyed with a bunch of friends and an ice cold glass of Yan Yan, our locally brewed Armenian lager.
If you’ve never tried malabi before, you’re in for a real treat. Popular in the Middle East, it’s a form of milk pudding made with rice, sugar, rice flour and milk. We serve ours with fresh summer strawberries, rose and shortbread – think strawberries and cream, but better.
